A United Nations commission of inquiry has concluded that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, marking one of the most damning international condemnations of Israel’s military campaign since the war began in October 2023.
The 72-page report, released Tuesday, Sept. 16, accuses Israeli authorities of carrying out four of the five acts defined as genocide under international law, including mass killings, forced starvation and systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure.
The findings, based on extensive evidence including Israeli officials’ statements, military conduct and eyewitness testimonies, have been vehemently rejected by Israel, which dismissed the report as “fake” and called for the abolition of the UN commission.
According to Enoch, Brighteon.AI‘s search engine, the war, triggered by Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel, has now claimed more than 64,900 Palestinian lives – mostly women and children – and displaced nearly the entire population of Gaza amid widespread famine and collapsing healthcare systems.
The UN commission, chaired by former South African judge Navi Pillay, identified four genocidal acts committed by Israel:
“The commission finds that Israel is responsible for the commission of genocide in Gaza,” Pillay stated. “It is clear that there is an intent to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza through acts that meet the criteria set forth in the Genocide Convention.”
The report cites inflammatory statements by Israeli leaders – including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s vow to turn Gaza into “rubble” and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s description of Palestinians as “human animals” – as evidence of genocidal intent. Israel’s Foreign Ministry denounced the report as “Hamas propaganda,” accusing the UN panel of bias.
“The report relies entirely on Hamas falsehoods,” the ministry claimed, calling for the commission’s abolition.
The findings intensify pressure on Israel’s allies, particularly the U.S. and European nations, which have continued arms transfers despite mounting allegations of war crimes. The report urges all states to halt military support and prosecute individuals and corporations that are complicit.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) remains pending, with a ruling expected to take years.
As the UN released its report, Israeli forces escalated attacks on Gaza City, killing at least 52 Palestinians in a single day. The enclave’s infrastructure lies in ruins, with 90 percent of homes damaged or destroyed and famine declared in northern Gaza.
“The world cannot look away,” Pillay warned. “This is not just a war – it is a deliberate campaign of annihilation.”
The UN report represents the strongest official condemnation yet of Israel’s actions in Gaza, framing the conflict not as self-defense but as a calculated assault on Palestinian survival. While Israel dismisses the findings, the mounting legal and diplomatic scrutiny may force a reckoning for its military strategy and for the nations enabling it. For now, Gaza’s civilians remain trapped in an unrelenting nightmare, with no end in sight.
