While it has yet to be formally confirmed by Milwaukee police, it has been revealed by media sources that 24-year-old Dominique Heaggan-Brown is the officer responsible for fatally shooting 23-year-old Sylville Smith in self-defense.
Oddly enough, the two men were later revealed to be former high school classmates. Obviously, they traveled down entirely different paths in the years that followed their school years.
In an interview with Fox 6, Sylville’s sister, Sherelle Smith, stated, “The boy knew my brother personally from high school. They knew each other. You knew exactly how my brother was and you shot and killed him.”
While specific details revealing exactly what occurred on the night that Heaggan-Brown shot Smith have been kept under wraps thus far, it is known that Smith was carrying a stolen handgun during the altercation. Given the man’s lengthy criminal history, it’s not hard to believe that he behaved in a way that left Heaggan-Brown feeling as though his life was in danger. His only way to ensure his own survival was by pulling the trigger.
It’s an unfortunate situation, but it doesn’t appear to be injustice by any stretch of the imagination.
The whole truth will eventually come out, though, because Milwaukee officials have confirmed that Heaggan-Brown was wearing a body camera during the event.
Strangely, many leftist media outlets have criticized Heaggan-Brown’s hip-hop endeavors; acting as though his taste in music and choices in creative expression somehow delegitimize his work as a police officer. Under the stage name KB Domo, Heaggan-Brown rapped about social issues and made references to the Baltimore riots.
To the Regressive Left, Heaggan-Brown’s words — even in a creative environment — are more of an indictment of his character than Smith’s criminal behavior. These kinds of narrow-minded attitudes are what stifle creativity and expand misconceptions about entire professions.
Bottom line, Heaggan-Brown chose to travel down a path of justice-seeking while Smith chose a life of crime instead. This event can be treated as a cautionary tale of making intelligent life choices instead of falling into a troubled circle of bad decisions.
