(BigGovernment.news) We have written often about the pitfalls and perils of Obamacare and honestly, just once we’d like to write something positive about the health care “reform” law. As much as we hate excessive government, we do enjoy seeing legislation and public policy actually benefit the American people.
But real life keeps getting in the way and we have to call ‘em like we see ‘em.
Obamacare is a catastrophe, folks. There just isn’t any other way to say it. It’s a massive failure and what’s worse, it’s a calamity that continues to worsen with each passing year.
Remember when President Obama and Democrats kept promising the country that the “Affordable” Care Act would be just that – affordable? Not only is it not affordable for tens of millions of people, but it’s about to get a lot more expensive – again – without offering consumers much in the way of improved service.
As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, health care premiums are skyrocketing once more, this time as much as 10 percent in 14 major cities:
The cost of plans on the Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplaces in 14 major cities will increase by an average of 10 percent in 2017, according to a report from the Kaiser Family Foundation.
The report evaluated the costs of plans in cities in Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia because these areas had complete data on rates that were publicly available for all insurers. The group evaluated data on silver plans since these are the basis for federal premium subsidies and are the plans that most enrollees choose.
“Based on insurer rate requests, the cost of the second-lowest silver plan in these cities will increase by a weighted average of 10% in 2017,” the report says. “Last year, premiums for the second-lowest silver plans in these areas increased 5% following review by state insurance departments.”
What’s more, because of the insane rules and requirements contained within the 2,700-page Obamacare legislation, more insurers are getting out of the Obamacare exchanges next year, meaning fewer choices (not more, as was promised) and higher premiums and deductibles (which is the opposite of what Obama promised).
This is real money and it affects real people. Meanwhile, Obama and Congress continue to get their healthcare subsidized by the American taxpayer, so that helps explain why there’s no rush or outcry from Washington to address this abomination.
This is more than just an outrage, Obamacare borders on criminal. We were lied to, repeatedly, by the law’s advocates. What’s more, Democrats used trickery to get the law passed in the first place.
But what may even be worse is that that too many Americans are willing to give Congress and the president a pass on this obscenity by not demanding that it be repealed and replaced with reforms that actually work.
Maybe that is a sign of the times.
Granted, petitioning Congress and pushing lawmakers to do anything is often like bleating in an empty forest or banging your head against a wall. But honestly, without pressuring lawmakers to get rid of Obamacare is sentencing our health care system to death. Do we want to do that?
The Affordable Care Act ought to be front and center this election cycle. We already know how likely Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton and likely Republican challenger Donald J. Trump feel about Obamacare and the health care system in general (Clinton here, Trump here). If you hate this law and what it has done to your monthly budget, hopefully that will make your choice easier.
