The state of California has granted what they’re calling a “temporary exemption” allowing small children to receive flu vaccines containing thimerosal, a derivative of mercury known to be a potent neurotoxin, which can harm the brain, spinal cord, kidneys and liver, according to the National Vaccine Information Center.[1]
Thimerosal in vaccines contains about 50 percent mercury, reports VaxTruth.org.[2]
California’s temporary allowance is supposedly in response to an “inadequate supply” of thimerosal-free influenza vaccines designed to be injected into children and infants. The exemption allows children three years old and younger to receive thimerosal flu vaccines beginning October 9 and lasting through December 31, according to California’s Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), which states that both Iowa and Illinois are also experiencing thimerosal-free flu shot shortages.[3]
School children forced to get mercury-laced flu shots
Due to the recent passing of SB277, a mandatory vaccine law requiring all children attending private or public schools to receive the state’s full list of recommended vaccinations, parents with school-age children will not be able to opt out of flu shots containing thimerosal, unless they obtain a note from their doctor outlining a pre-existing health condition that exempts them from vaccination.[4]
Under SB277, school children are required to receive 10 CDC recommended vaccines, six of which are grouped into two *three-in-one packages:[5]
California’s decision to reinstate mercury-laced flu shots for toddlers is both shocking and concerning, considering the state banned them altogether nearly a decade ago. Under the Mercury-Free Act, California disallowed thimerosal-containing vaccines for pregnant women and children under three in 2006.[6]

Now the state is ignoring its “mercury-free” standards due to an alleged shortage — illustrating the fact that even when dangerous vaccines are legally banned, they can still be brought back to wreak havoc on the public.
Flu shots, by the way, cause more harm to people than any other vaccines. Between May and August 2015, nearly 76 percent of documented vaccine injuries and/or deaths were caused by the flu shot.[7]
Vaccine makers add thimerosal to immunizations as a preservative to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi; however, some scientists say that not only is it ineffective, it can cause serious health effects, as well.[8]
The CDC admits that thimerosal contains ethyl mercury, which, according to heavy metal expert Dr. Chris Shade, is 1,000 times more toxic once it enters our cells. However, both methyl mercury and ethyl mercury are toxic and able to cross the blood-brain barrier.[9]
Plenty of mercury-free flu shots available for adults, but just not for kids
California’s Health and Human Services Secretary Diana Dooley wrote:
I am writing to inform you that I am granting a temporary exemption from California Health and Safety Code Section 124172 for seasonal influenza vaccine with trace levels of thimerosal to be administered to children younger than three years from October 9, 2015 through December 31, 2015, because the current supply of thimerosal-free vaccine for young children is inadequate.

The letter admits that there are plenty of thimerosal-free flu shots for adults, but their supply for children is limited. Dooley added:
I have written the manufacturer, Sanofi Pasteur, urging it to take any and all steps necessary to promptly address the shortage of this influenza vaccine, and asking it to provide an immediate and clear timeline on the availability of the vaccine so that all necessary actions may be taken to protect California’s children.
We will continue to assess the need for an extension of this temporary exemption over this period, and will be in regular contact with the manufacturer to assess product availability and to continue to monitor the vaccine supply.
Similar exemptions are in place at present in other states that have restrictions on mercury content, including Illinois and Iowa. I am granting this temporary exemption because of the health risk posed to California by influenza, and because there are inadequate supplies of this vaccine to comply with the law.
In accordance with the intent of the law, during this exemption period immunizers should prioritize available supplies of thimerosal-free vaccine to young children.
